Dish Network Information
Dish Network is a company that offers a direct broadcast
satellite (DBS) service which sends digital satellite tv and digital
audio to dish system owners in the United States. Dish Network is owned
by Echostar.
In March of 1996 the Dish Network was officially
launched. Their main competition in the United States satellite dish
market is DIRECTV. In the beginning, Dish Network made use of an 18-inch
satellite dish that they called the Dish 300. This system allowed customers
to be able to receive a signal from one satellite location.
Today, Dish Network makes use of a 20-inch mini
satellite dish that they call the Dish 500. This new dish lets customers
receive their satellite signals from two different satellite locations
at the same time. They are also introducing the "SuperDish"
which is a little bit bigger at 36"×20" and they have the ability to
receive satellite signals from three satellite locations at the same
time. The SuperDish as well as the Dish 500 are starting to become more
popular as Dish Network attempts to squeeze a greater degree of programming
onto their systems. This is especially true for local and national U.S.
tv network stations as well as for foreign programming.
Dish Network started to provide in-flight satellite
tv service to the American airline Song in 2003. In 2004 the Dish Network
came out with another innovation when they included selected music channels
from the Sirius Satellite Radio Network's audio pack.
Dish Network is by far the most popular and fastest
growing DBS (direct broadcast satellite) dish tv service. This popularity
is garnered through broadcasting their digital quality audio and video
signals right to the mini dishes that are found on the homes of millions
of Americans. Direct broadcast satellite, or DBS, is a fairly new technological
advancement in the world of tv broadcasting.
